WATCH Boston 25 News interview with Peter Brennan, NECSEMA's Executive Director, about the government overreach over selling certain types of Nicotine Pouches in Massachusetts
March 11, 2026: Peter Brennan, Executive Director of the New England Convenience Store and Energy Marketers Association, was interviewed today about the letter sent by the Central Massachusetts Regional Health Department to 39 businesses in Shrewsbury, Grafton, and West Boylston informing them that they can no longer sell certain nicotine pouches. Brennan said the local health board is “out of control.” “What you have now is just a patchwork of regulation pushed by local health boards and tobacco control people that makes no sense because this is not what the flavor ban intended. The flavor ban was intended to ban things like cotton candy vapes, bubble-gum flavored tobacco products that you could easily see as being marketed to kids. These more subtle nicotine pouches are not marketed to kids at all."

Credit Card Competition Act
01/13/2026 UPDATE: Reintroduction of the Credit Card Competition Act (CCCA) by Senators Roger Marshall (R-KS) Dick Durbin (D-IL) and along with Reps. Lance Gooden (R-TX) and Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) a bipartisan measure aimed at curbing skyrocketing credit card swipe fees that disproportionately impact small business fuel marketers and convenience store operators across the nation. The bill introduction follows President Trump’s posted support for the bill today. We thank the President for his monumental move to endorse passage of the CCCA. 06/07/2023 UPDATE: Referred to the House Committee on Financial Services. Action By: House of Representatives According to NACS: "Credit card swipe fees for the convenience store industry have increased a staggering 82% over the last 3 years and now stand at $19.5 billion. But bipartisan legislation in Congress would tackle these fees and help protect Main Street businesses from the megabanks on Wall Street. NACS proudly supports the Credit Card Competition Act of 2023 (S. 1838/H.R. 3881), bipartisan, bicameral legislation." NECSEMA proudly supports this legislation too!
